Certain Blacks & The Power of Diversity in the Arts with Clive Lyttle #36

SHOW NOTES

Today I’m talking with Clive Lyttle. Clive is currently the artistic director of Certain Blacks, which started in 2015 and aims to support diverse artists. Certain Blacks is a diverse arts organisation that has recently worked at 101 Creation Centre and is part of With Out Walls's artistic directorate.

Certain Blacks produces Ensemble Festival each year in London’s Royal Docks. Its work includes producing online events, which include Newham Unlocked, Surveillance, Dance Like No One is watching and Svalbard Brain Town. Certain Blacks is supported by Arts Council England through its Elevate programme. The organisation has recently presented Shipbuilding Festival at Rich Mix in February 2022. 

An accomplished musician and performer specialising in new music and jazz, Clive has almost 25 years of experience involved in programming and arts management. His background includes producing and managing several performing arts festivals and venues. Venues managed include Brewhouse Arts Centre and Croydon Clocktower and a producer at North Kensington and presenting and developing Portobello Arts Festival and the Notting Hill Jazz Festival. 

He has also worked in the circus, and outdoor arts in his Cultural Leadership MA dissertation on the impact of ACE’s policy, New Landscapes (ACE 2008) on the outdoor arts sector - Inside Outdoor Arts (2011).  

Clive lives in Royal Docks, London.
